Theology Shaping Mission – January 14/15, 2012 – LIMA, Peru
Featuring: Bishop Michael Nazir Ali
This is the first of the Canon John Heidt Memorial lectures.
The Saints Augustine Seminary of the Anglican Diocese of Peru is pleased to announce the creation of a new annual theological lecture series. The series has been named “The John H. Heidt Theological Lectures” in memory of the late Canon Theologian of the Diocese of Fort Worth, who was a dear friend and occasional guest professor of the seminary. Fr. Heidt was a powerful and effective proponent of catholic orthodoxy who had a great passion for the “faith once delivered” (Jude 1:3), for the cure of souls and for the Church catholic. It is hoped that these lectures will honor his memory by promoting the same. The inaugural lecture has been scheduled for January 14-15, 2012 in Lima, Peru.
The weekend conference Theology Shaping Mission features Bishop Michael Nazir Ali -
Former Bishop of Rochester, UK and President of the Oxford Centre for Training, Research, Advocay and Dialogue. The conference, hosted at Sts. Augustine Seminary and Co-sponsored with Nashotah House Seminary will involve clergy and missionaries from the dioceses of Peru, Chile, Uruguay and Bolivia.
Bishop Nazir Ali will be talking about how theology shapes mission as the way in which theology affects how we “do” mission. The conference includes breakout papers from four different persons including Bishop H. William Godfrey of Peru, Dr. Robert Munday of Nashotah House. Dr. Peter Moore has written a special paper for this conference.
This conference is unique in that it will be bi-lingual and cross cultural. It will be a great opportunity for both cultures represented to interact and cross fertilize in the context of a South American and Latin culture. We hope to find opportunities for those registering for the preceding five day course to experience ministry and mission among the poor of the Lima “pueblos jovenes” (shantytowns). The Anglican Church is Peru is deeply committed to ministry that is BOTH spiritually and socially transforming.
This 1 week course/conference and cross cultural mission experience is offered by Nashotah House Seminary in cooperation with St. Augustine’s Anglican Seminary, Lima, Peru. It will lay a theological and practical foundation to help Church leaders grasp their role in developing, sending and supporting missionaries at home and abroad. Five evening lectures offered in English and Spanish will consider a variety of missiological perspectives in biblical, historical, systematic, cultural and practical theologies. Mornings and afternoons will be spent in ministry shared with Anglican missionaries and local Peruvian clergy and seminarians.
